Hint: Words are expensive. Use them wisely.

So you just sent off that angry text.

Wait for it…

You watch as your incoming text bubble pulses on your phone. It’s been going for a while so you’re now expecting a book-length response, possibly to berate you for your agitated message.

It happens to us all — at least to those of us who use modern technology regularly. But technology isn’t the only way we communicate, even though it’s hard to remember a time where we didn’t.

Yes, face-to-face communication still exists. And, believe it or not, the same etiquette is expected whether we speak in person, over…

Don’t worry, you’re not the only one who’s lost it.

Photo by Ümit Yıldırım on Unsplash

Remember when you could envision an entire world all in your mind?

Sadly, most of us can’t remember that far back.

Regardless, we were once all masters of our own private universe. The glimmer of a sunbeam shining down through the trees was enough to spark an entire world full of magical forest creatures, all able to defy the laws of time and space, and this existed all in our minds.

And, wouldn’t you agree that childhood truly is a magical time in its own right?

It’s a time of learning the world and of realizing (becoming) the truest and…

Read along if you’re willing to make a change.

So, you’re tired of trying. And, you’ve tried everything, right?

If you answered yes to either of those questions, congratulations, you’ve just walked into a room to join 90% of people who set out to accomplish goals but never see them through.

And, I’m right here with you.

Yes, you read that right. I along with nearly all of the human population have tried and failed many times over.

You know the drill. You get an idea and you go after it only to be knocked down, tripped up or sidetracked by life. It happens all the time. …

Don’t disappear for good, but don’t get burnt out either.

Photo by Ryan Snaadt on Unsplash

Hello again.

If you began following my writing at the beginning of the year you probably noticed that I disappeared for the last several months. Well, I did this on purpose, for both personal and practical reasons.

The thing is, writing is hard. It’s not hard to come up with useful concepts, or to string sentences together. But, it’s hard to maintain a consistent schedule.

A consistent writing schedule is crucial for success on this platform, and for virtually any writing method.

I know what you’re thinking. This dude just got burnt out.

Not exactly.

I’ve been writing, a lot.

I know it’s hard, but you’re playing for keeps.

I’m going to be straight up with you. This is a reality check.

What I’m about to tell you isn’t going to be well received by many aspiring writers. In fact, it’ll probably cause a little resentment, maybe even a bit of rage.

But that’s ok. Because you need to hear this. So, here it comes:

You’ve been selling yourself short.

You’ve been cheating yourself every single day.

And, you’re cheating the world by being selfish and lazy.

Yes, you’re welcome to read all that again. It’s true, and you know it.

More than half of all aspiring writers never…

You might be making pennies instead of dollars, but you’ll learn a lot.

Photo by Thought Catalog on Unsplash

So, you want to be a working writer?

If so, I truly hope you’ve thought this through, because the avenues for generating income are many, but none are easy.

Read that again.

I’m serious. Sorry to be so blunt about it, but it’s true. Some gigs are just taxing — a burnout waiting to happen. And most “writing gigs” you’ll find as a newbie fall into a less than glamorous category and all involve a ton of work.

But, don’t lose all hope just yet.

I should really begin by telling you that when I set out to become a…

One keeps you awake at night, the other helps you sleep.

“The world is little, people are little, human life is little. There is only one big thing — desire.
― Willa Cather, The Song of the Lark

You have a special place in your mind. We all do.

Deep within the wellspring of mind, under the faint footprint of consciousness exists a space where thought is formed. It is here where our greatest ideas are born. But from where they come, we’ll not ever know.

This space deep within the mind is also home to another companion.

Neighbor to idea and parent to dream, is desire.

It is this desire…

Children’s games are much more than simple play.

“Time is a game played beautifully by children.
― Heraclitus, Fragments

There’s a game we all play when we’re young.

This game has different rules. It has different players and equally different playing fields.

It changes as you age. Sometimes it changes by the day.

It can even change by the minute.

The game is formed much in the same fashion as thought. It dwells within the imagination, deep in the mind, next to the true self. It forms as we form.

It becomes as we become.

In the space of youthful innocence we play our games, as children and…

We all need to get back to what really matters.

Photo by Matt Collamer on Unsplash

The world is a cold place.

Sure, we all have our fun times — you will have your triumphs and your revelry. But at the end of the day, it’s survival of the fittest.

Animals and humans included.

I realized this today firsthand while driving, and it brought me to tears — more on that in a minute. But first, consider this thought.

You know that feeling you get when you find yourself stuck in a precarious situation?

Like, almost instantly — after a sudden decision — you look around and realize you’re absolutely screwed?

You know what I’m talking…

Sometimes our effort needs to be effortless.

“You’re going to find that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view”

~ Obi-Wan Kenobi

Have you ever let yourself go in a river?

Have you ever surrendered to the mercy of the current?

Powerful things happen when we release — when we let go of all we think we know and allow ourselves to settle into one space, to ride the current.

It is during this time where we have the most clarity, where wonderful things begin to happen in our lives seemingly by…
